Steps to Install MS SQL 2008 Database Server

Download the MS SQL 2008  installation setup file from the Microsoft site . Run the setup file

Click on new installation or add features to an existing installation

Click Next

Check I accept the licence  terms and click next

Click Next , Select the below options

Select Default Instance and click next

select the account name for Sql Server Agent , Sql Server Database Engine , Sql Server analysis services , Sql Server reporting services as NT AUTHORITY \NETWORK SERVICE and click next

Select Mixed mode ( SQL Server authentication and Windows Authentication ) , enter the sa password and select Add Current User, click Next, If you want the SQL installation to be done on other drive other than C drive , click the Data Directories tab and select the desired drive

Select Add current and click Next

The installation process will start

Restart MS SQL Service from Command Prompt

You can restart the MS SSQL service from command prompt using the below commands

C:\net stop MSSQLSERVER

C:\net start MSSQLSERVER

Also you can restart the other related MS SQL Services using the below command

SQL Server Agent Service

C:\net stop SQLSERVERAGENT

C:\net start SQLSERVERAGENT

SQL Server Browser

C:\net stop SQLBrowser

C:\net start SQLBrowser

 

 

How to restore a MSSQL 2005 database

To restore MSSQL 2005 Database from a backup file say data.bak which you have backed up from a database , first place the backup file in the following location
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup .

Then login to the MSSQL management studio using windows authentication or SQL server authentication , Expand databases in the left pane , Right click on the database which you want to restore ==> tasks ==>Restore ==>database

Then select the “from device” option and browse the path where you have copied the database backup file data.bak which is C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup\data.bak

Check the restore check box and click options . From the restore options select overwrite the existing database option and provide the correct path for the .mdf and .ldf files say C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\data.mdf and C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\data_log.ldf .

Click ok to restore the database and you will get a message that the restore of the database was completed successfully .
